He ran the Rodent Tapes label back then and produced a prolific amount of work himself, some under a lengthy spell known as Arzathon. Hal McGee - Microcassette Assemblage For Communitas (6:33) When I first got involved with the cassette underground movement at the onset of the 90’s, Hal's Electronic Cottage zine was already an icon, and though the printed version is long since gone, the concept lives on by means of a website, compilations and special projects by the creative cooperative on Farcebook. These days, Hal rarely leaves the house without his trusty microcassette recorder and produces regular sound collages of his daily life. These really are quite unique and I selected one he recorded especially for our Communitas compilation series back in 2021... 07. Howl in the Typewriter - Lights Out (3:40) A dear old friend, pStan Batcow, and for the record, that’s pStan with a silent ‘p’. These days pStan’s a neighbour, he lives a few miles down the road in Blackpool, but we go back over 30 years. My old band, Magic Moments At Twilight Time, had a release on his Pumf Records label circa ’91. “Designer Brain Damage”, it was called. They don’t write songs like that any more. Pumf is still active, no tapes these days, just CD’s and Bandcamp now. And Stan can’t sit still for five minutes, still doing the most eclectic range of stuff under the banner of Howl in the Typewriter... 08. Conny Plankton - Asparagi (5:36) From the opposite coast in England hails Kev Trundley. Back in the day, Kev ran a tape label and distro called The Trundley Experience. In the later 90’s, he started producing his own music, first under the name of Acidfuck, then The Purple Better One. Most recently, he works under the name of Conny Plankton, the latest release from which is called Bug Metallic, and is rather flatteringly constructed with many samples and sound clips from the Magic Bullet. France, to be precise, the highly prolific M. Nomized. From back in the day to the present, he has produced an incredible catalogue of work, he’s collaborated with virtually everyone who’s worth collaborating with. And us. Plus done some seriously good compilations on his Fraction Studio label. He even let us be on one. Nice man... 10. Spam Javelin - Rate, Like, Subscribe! (1:51) This month's play-out track comes from north Wales finest punksters, fronted by Neil Crud, ex of Sons Of Selina, M&E's best selling band.
