UNITED WORLD UNDERGROUND

'United World Underground' was originally a somewhat foolish (and shortlived) attempt at rebranding M&E in 2000, when we finally left the old way of typewriters, Letraset and photocopying behind. I wanted to go with something that I thought more captured the full scope of the project, and it sounded cool as fuck... in English! And there was the irony, it sounded crap if you tried translating it into any other language! Hah! The best laid men of mice with plans, as they say. But it did make a very good 'umbrella title' for the whole thing; MMATT, M&E and the whole network; all our friends and contacts around the global counter-culture movement, and it's to them that this section is dedicated. I N   M E M O R Y   O F   L O R D   L I T T E R   &   K E V Y N   D Y M O N D

As 2023 was coming to a close, I received the sad news of yet another loss of one of our own. Far from being just a musical connection, Kevyn was also a dear friend of over 30 years standing, though we'd only ever met in the flesh the one time. In spite of M&E's slow demise in the early part of the millennium, not to mention own his stubborn refusal to have anything to do with the new world of digital communication, he continued to keep in touch via the old fashioned method of hand-written letters and jiffy bags! I'm really going to miss those handmade birthday and Christmas cards...

And Lord Litter, the man I frequently referred to as The Patron Saint Of The Underground, who sadly left this world on 1st May 2024, aged 68, following a long battle with COPD. It was he who first introduced me to the global cassette culture movement back in 1991, and probably did more for The Cause than any other human being that's ever lived. I've written so much about him already over the last three decades of friendship, so this feature is mostly his own words and his own music, as it should be, to mark a life so extraordinary. Thanks for everything, my friend, good journey...
