INTRO:
Magic Moments At Twilight Time - White Cathay (1:55)
Archive track from 1987
The following material is drawn from the
album "Elementalis", based on the five elements of Chinese Wu Xing
philosophy, which I had the honour and pleasure of curating for the Bromtol
Largesse label last April. There are plenty of notes about each individual
contributing artist on the album link, so I won't repeat them all here, that
would be silly...

OVERTURE:
Gabriel Pereira Spurr & Jordi Heras Fauque - Overture (1:56)
Gabriel is based in Argentina, Jordi in
Spain, and they are the head honchos behind the Hamfuggi Records label, they
were selected to create an overture and a finale for the album, like if it
was a movie, and a very nice job they did of it too...

1:
EARTH:
The Owl - Schematic Of The Earth_s Coresv2 (15:00)
The work of Paul Priest, based in the Czech
Republic, and the man behind the Owlripper Recordings label. Paul wanted to
take the element of metal, but it had already been claimed by then, and when
we got let down by the original taker, he'd already done earth by then. Such
is life...

METAL:
Antoine Trauma - Metal & Glass (3:04)
This is the creation of the man who runs
the Plataforma Recs label in Brazil, and the ultimate recipient of the metal
job. Glass was like a free bonus element he threw in for us, nothing to do
with Wu Xing at all, but pretty cool, innit...

WATER:
Magic Bullet - A Meditation On The Hydrological Cycle (8:43)
Being here in Knott End-On-Sea, it seemed
inevitable that we would draw the element of water. I mean, River Wyre to
the west of the village, Morecambe Bay emptying into the Irish Sea to the
north, and as Skit pointed out, it never stops raining...

WOOD:
Yann Pillas - Timberwood (5:00)
Somehow, it seemed appropriate that the man
whose idea it was to use Wu Xing as a theme for the album was the man who
got wood, he'd earned it. Yann runs the Camembert Électrique label in France
and makes some very interesting noises himself...

FIRE:
Bode - Fire Shall Come (10:00)
Back to
Brazil for the man to whom we gave fire, he of The Church Of Noisy Goat
fame, which sounds like a strange religious sect, but is actually a label.
Their Bandcamp says Vancouver, wonder if he's moved and not told me? He's
only got himself to blame if he doesn't get our Christmas card this year...

FINALE:
Gabriel Pereira Spurr & Jordi Heras Fauque - Finale (0:51)
OUTRO: Artemiy Artemiev
-
Journey Under The Great Wall Of China (excerpt - 6:17)
Son of the late and legendary
composer, Eduard Artemiev, whose soundtrack work for many a great Russian
sci fi movie; The Mirror, Stalker, Solaris; you may well be familiar with.
When it came to talent, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. This is
from his 1998 album, "Five Mystery Tales Of Asia"...
