on my new duo – Meta Georgia, acoustic duo with my
girlfriend. All other activities are part of the past. I even stopped
recording solo music . I realised it’s time for a solid break …no band .. no
hosting of a concert series – I did that from 2007 to 2011, the series was
called “Shared Night” with SUPER musicians, real pros … BUT all looking for
a free platform to present their creations, so again no money making
involved – I hosted the nights, played own songs .. invented a “suitcase
theatre” with puppets and gimmicks .. it was BRILLIANT experience .. then I
caught a real naughty flu so I had to stop for quite a while .. the concert
series is on halt at the moment .. probably came to an end .. will find out
… then I produced soundtracks for avant short films with Andrea Splisgar ..
VERY inspiring, reminding on my soundscape work in the 1990s .. also on halt
at the moment .. the last film we did even won a prize … CHAPTER 14 The
Dream of the Disembodied Birds by Andrea Splisgar ...

Back in 2005 I realised that I
receive about 5 CDs daily, I started putting the music and songs in
categories .. “airplaysong” etc .. I produced 5 shows a month .. in the end
I started to “hate” music … I almost fainted. So I completely slowed down.
One show a month and no more cooperation with promo agencies etc (the “biz”
aspect of music hides everywhere these days!!) .. and oups .. overnite the
problem was solved. This also helped me to come closer to a new kind of
quality. I produced a “Roots Show”, which was inspiring when I started and
became a curse after I had received CD No. 87865564 with a deep voice, the
chords G, C, A minor, singing about a miserable world. Today I present the
ONE singer who plays this music in his own unique universe of sound and no
longer the 898776754 Johnny Cash clones. Plus – I play CDs more often at the
shows. All this is still leading closer to the point I want to get to and
not to burnout. I guess the keyword is development .. always look for
something new.
MM:
Of course, at the obsessive level you and I were involved at, it has to have
an effect on relationships. I remember being in the M&E office till the wee
hours, leaving Sam reading for the evening and going to bed alone, it can’t
have been easy for her. I recall we used to joke that I was about the only
person in the underground with a girlfriend, but it really is
that time-consuming! I know you’ve found your ‘goat/chair’ now (what the
fuck does that mean!?), can you tell us a bit about your good
lady and how the two of you met?
His Lordship finally finds his
'goat/chair', that would probably be a 'soul-mate' in English. Let's be
honest, foreigners can never really grasp the great subtleties of the
English language; a sheep, some sheeps, many sheepses, it's not rocket
science, is it? |
LL:
We
know each other since the 1980s… played in bands and production cooperatives
– I managed her acoustic trio – they were probably one of the first bands to
create something like a new “roots” sound – “NOONE” played acoustic jazz-ish
own songs with a new quality these days .. all happening in the 1980s. Then
we met once in a while, talking about music, playing each other recent
productions etc .. sometimes it took 10 years to meet again but we always
vaguely kept in touch. In the summer of 2010 I received an email .. we met
.. tried if making music would work .. realised that everything else also
works out and .. wammm .. we’re together – so we only needed 30 years to
find each other! Even though we are totally different .. we see all things
very similar and the way I worked on my music in recent years fits exactly
to her songs, which we play now. We’re working on a program .. have 14 songs
.. and will start recording a CD in early 2013. Still ok are the three songs
we recorded in early 2012, available for free download from my website.. ..
and, believe it or not ‘goat / chair’, is based on a communication I had
with Mr. Mick Magic, a “picture” for a girlfriend / relationship. Don’t ask
me how it came about that we were using this .. but we did! .. I thought it
was wonderful obscure, so I kept the expression all these years.
MM:
I’m flattered! So, you and she are your musical present, but you have such a
large body of work behind you already, and of such wonderful quality. The
first album of yours we released on M&E was “Torn Between Temptations” (M&E
012 – April 1992), my catalogue review of which starts; “This is quite
probably the best underground album ever made, you’d only need a pair of
ears to appreciate it.” I listened to it again yesterday for the first time
in quite a few years. Wow. You know what? I still find it an absolute joy,
music without chains; one minute we’re on vintage Pink Floyd space
soundtracks, then jangly mandolins, imaginatively used samples, pop/rock,
latin influenced, a touch of 60’s bubblegum and the world’s first lavatory &
western song in “Could Somebody Please Flush Me Down The Toilet”! What did
you have in mind to achieve when you created this masterpiece of an album
and how do you feel about it in the present day?
"Torn
Between Temptations" (M&E 012), one of the first wave of M&E releases in
April 1992. A revelation at the time, and I swear it's got even better with
age...
LL:
I
think it just was the nucleus of a certain time or period of my creativity.
I began recording and releasing in 1984. In the beginning I released a new
cassette every third month. I think “Torn..” was the peak and the end of
this period. Almost every song on the release
presents a certain kind of musical interest of mine. It all just happened in
those years .. no “concept” .. no “why and how” .. that was cool .. sure on
the other hand that meant releasing LOTSA trash. Looking back at all my
releases – they were all ok when I released them – some are a pain in the
*A* to me today .. but still it’s ok that I did it all exactly like I did
it. By the way there is a whole new generation of Lord Litter fans .. young
people who download my tapes from sources like...
http://www.tapeattack.blogspot.com
...then even produce a YouTube video! So one of the most disgusting cassette
covers I ever produced now turns up when you look for Lord Litter on the
internet. “Tits, Zombies and Assholes” .. the cover for that tape … good
grief .. but YES it’s ok! |
