A second outing on the
Brazilian label for A Bala Mágica (that's us in Portuguese), and
great to have a track on their Noise Around The World series. Skit
always gets excited when he knows it's going to be a noise project. That and
when Sam buys him a sherbet dib-dab. But I digress. So, he goes running
around the house straight away, desperately looking for any sound producing
item we've never used on a track before, comes back excitedly clutching
Sam's electric toothbrush. It's okay, she wasn't using it at the time.
"Uh uh," I shook my head, "we
used that on It Is For Sleeps And Dreams."
"Fuck you," he replied, "Skit
have different idea. No *bang bang. Textured and motioned drone. We use
stereoscape. Spooky spooky." (*This is what Skit calls drums, bless
him...)
I know better than to argue in
these situations, so I nodded and got set up to cut some samples. We
normally like to imagine a sound work as a journey, that's why our pieces
often peak in the middle, but Skit was a man inspired for this one,
explained that he had this idea on using cross-phasing in a way we hadn't
previously. It's not bad, is it? We both decided the end result sounded
quite otherworldly and dark, so what to call it?
Electric toothbrush >>>
initials are ET >>> ET = alien >>> which in Portuguese is... da da!
