A Plataforma
compilation in memory of Bryn Jones,
aka Muslimgauze
(17 June 1961 - 14 January 1999)
In spite of a long period of
creative draught in the world of the Magic Bullet, this being only the third
new track we've produced in 2024 (and one of them was only 50 milliseconds
long!), I was quite determined to be a contributor on this one. I never had
the pleasure of direct contact with Bryn Jones, who recorded under the
banner of Muslimgauze, but came to know his work via Gary 'Devotional
Hooligan' Waterworth at Dizzy Positivity, some years after his untimely
death. When we were doing the M&E Showcase on Soundcloud, Gary sent me an
untitled track from an album of previously unreleased material he was making
available as a free download in his Digital Dizzy archive series. That was
called Trial Mixes 1997-98, and this was the featured track on the
show...
Muslimgauze - Untitled #6 (5:56)

The name Muslimgauze was Bryn's
nod to a culture he had always held a fascination with and cared about with
a passion, his music often being a fusion between western
electro-experimentalism and influences from the Islamic world. He was
particularly passionate about the fate of the Palestinian people, a passion
I find it impossible not to share currently, considering what is happening
to them right now, hence the implication of our track's title.
The musical bit; it's
constructed from one processed electronic drone, a synthesizer, and two
aerial drones of the type the IDF use to destroy schools, hospitals and
slaughter civilians and children.
The political bit; I guess what
I wrote in the previous sentence will betray my sympathies, so let's clear
some things up before the accusations start, because I know this is a
sensitive issue...
I am NOT an
anti-Semite. I believe the Jewish people have the right to a homeland, but
so do the Palestinians, and they are the only ones being denied it. I am,
however, VERY anti the Netanyahu government. I believe the man
is a war criminal and an absolute racist monster creating a future of
nothing but misery for his own people and their neighbours in the middle
east. And I cannot for the life of me understand why western governments are
funding, supplying and tolerating this campaign of vengeful ethnic cleansing
disguised as self-defence. Of course the October 7th attack was horrendous,
who in good conscience could ever condone such an act of violence? But I do
understand the frustration and anger that lead to it. And this can only keep
happening until there is a fair and just solution. I hope the people of
Israel will get rid of Netanyahu and his cronies at their next opportunity
and start the move towards permanent peace and security for both themselves
and the Palestinians via the inevitable and morally justifiable two state
solution. Rant over.
