clothes. When
the Police investigated the case they told my grandmother that a Victorian
house had been on the site, but was demolished around WWI. They said they
couldn’t explain it, but believed me. Many years later I came to believe
that was just a ‘screen memory’ for an abduction. Incidentally, my house has
featured on TV almost as many times as myself, mainly for paranormal shows,
and some excellent footage has been recorded. I still let several paranormal
groups hold vigils and do research here. The BBC have also used the house
for a couple of historical dramas…. They pay well. The dark shadow (ghost)
still appears to this day and has been witnessed by most of my friends and
people who use the studio. It’s now been called ‘Misty Grey’.
MM: As M&E
ground to a halt in the latter end of 2003, I lost contact with you, as I
did with most of the world, but I know the tough times continued for you
some time after that. I was sorry to hear that you and Jane had split up, I
do sympathise, been there myself, twice, there’s quite a little club out
there for ex Mrs. Magics. Knowing you, I’m guessing you’ve thrown yourself
even harder into your work with those spare waking moments spent on your
vegetable garden. So what are your hopes and ambitions now, and what does
the future hold for Marc Bell himself?
MB: In
2003 I had a serious accident in a 25 foot roof fall, spent several weeks in
a coma, had a brain haemorrhage removed etc….
a pretty dark time. I broke a
lot of bones & couldn’t play guitar for ages. At that time Jane inherited a
nice Farm house etc, preferred BMW’s & ‘Holidays in the Sun’ to me…. I
didn’t quite fit into that plan…. That’s OK, I can forgive & move on. 4
years later, I was diagnosed with AML (Leukaemia) and had 4 rounds of chemo…
it was shit. At the worst I was down to under 7 stone and surviving on
glucose drinks. But my friends all helped me…. Jane didn’t even say hello. I
know who my friends are these days. One of the last tracks we recorded for
Candor Records was called, “Gudbuy T’ Jane”, same title as the massive SLADE
hit, but totally our own song. It articulates lyrically things from my
perspective…. Hopefully we’ll re-record it in the near future for a
forthcoming Music & Elsewhere showcase. My plans for the future: I work with
a lot of local bands inc: HADEZ who are now getting pretty successful. I
have no plans to retire….. that would be boring. More studio, more
recording, a new Rollers album in 2014. Maybe even getting the show back out
on the road again? More paranormal stuff…. but no more TV! One day I might
find the time to draw & paint again? The track that changed my life: “Cum On
Feel The Noize” – SLADE!
MM: Any last words
before you sign off?
MB: The
time for forgiveness is now….. |
MM:
Big thanks for finding a 25th hour in your working day so you could answer
some questions, it's been a blast. Here's wishing you every continued
success in whatever you do in the future, just don't expect me to stop
taking the piss any time soon, eh?
