The Feedback Chart Of 2000

Just our way of saying thanks to everyone who helps spread the word about M&E and the UWU project. So whose efforts past and present have been adding pennies to our coffers and new names to our supporters index in the year 2000? And how does that compare to 1999 (in brackets)? Let’s find out who’s in The Dynamic Dozen…

01 (03) A.M., P.O. Box 1428, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN2 1ZY, UK.

A fine little zine put together by Karda Estra’s Richard Wileman. Ironically, it’s in stasis at the moment while Richard considers whether or not he can find the spare time required to keep it going, a sad and familiar underground tale. At least hitting top on our feedback charts will leave him assured it does get read!

02 (02) ADRIFT IN THE ETHER, 62 Wells Street, Riverside, Cardiff, CF1 8DY, UK.

An excellent book, by Christopher Williams, exploring the state of the British underground psychedelic scene. Published in 1997 by Borderline Productions.

03 (01) CREAM OF THE CROP, 13 Coronation Street, Pontymister, Risca, Gwent, NP1 6BD, UK.

Enthusiastic fanzine put together by Colin Scott, often appears with a cassette compilation included.

04 (17) TRY ACID, 28 Churchill Close, Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 8EN, UK.

The general newsletter of Acid Tapes, as run by Stormclouds’ Steve Lines. Fabulous selection of psychedelic tapes available here too.

05 (16) THE HEX FILES, address unknown.

All I can tell you is that this is like the Gothic bible, written by Mick Mercer, published around 1996 / 97. Beyond that, it’s a mystery!

06 (05) HAWKFAN, 27 Burdett Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, PE13 2PR, UK.

The most famous Hawkwind fanzine in the UK, produced with great dedication for many years by Brian Tawn. Aside from covering the Hawks and related, also plugs other things of interest to space cadets.

07 (08) AURAL INNOVATIONS, 1364 West 7th Avenue – Apt.B, Columbus, OH 43212, U.S.A.

And talking of space cadets, this has to be America’s top spacerock magazine. As far as I know, Jerry Kranitz is only publishing it on the Internet now, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

08 (10) PTOLEMAIC TERRASCOPE, 37 Sandridge Road, Melksham, Wiltshire, SN12 7BQ, UK.

Really excellent psychedelic magazine produced by Phil McMullen. Very specialised and highly informative, normally comes with a cover disc (vinyl last time I looked, but times move on).

09 (06) HAWKZINE, Schillerstraße 9, 65817 Eppstein, Germany.

The German language (mainly) counterpart of Hawkfan, put together lovingly by Dietrich Pless. Far wider scope of content though, covering all kinds of spacey and psycherock bands.

10 (04) ROCK ‘N’ REEL, 8 Dent Place, Cleator Moor, Cumbria, CA25 5EE, UK.

Excellent music magazine, edited by Sean McGhee, and the only one of the major distributed mags that shows a genuine interest in the underground. But what’s the obsession with blinds in Cleator Moor?

11 (17) AQUAMARINE, 68 Barlich Way, Lodge Park, Redditch, Worcestershire, B98 7JP, UK.

Long running and well established fanzine, produced by the lovely Kim Harten, the nice young lady behind Bliss Tapes.

12 (18) HAWKEYE, 6 Conifers Close, Teddington, Middlesex, TW11 9JG, UK.

The other well known UK Hawkwind fanzine, edited by Adrian Parr, renowned for its almost obsessive cataloguing of all sorts of Hawk info.

* Please note that this was all a dozen years ago and I can't vouch for any of those addresses at the present.

Thanks For All The Fish…

That just leaves me to say goodbye for now then. Ooh, my first newsletter on a computer! Scary or what? Let me know what you think, eh? Well, loads of plans for this year, tons of the damned things. BUT, whenever I’ve opened my gob in the past about something planned… something goes wrong and it doesn’t happen. Like that “Best Of M&E” (M&E 500), for example. Sorry, that one went belly up, I’ll be contacting all the people who ordered it to sort something nice out for them, pretty promise. So anyway, this year I’ll play it carefully, tell you about things when they are ready. Sensible Magic. J . Meanwhile, there’s the fabulous new United World Underground CD to keep you warm these Winter nights. Many thanks for your continued support, catch yas again soon!
