HAL-90: Sure, Number One, no problems at all. What’s up? Can’t sleep?

NUMBER ONE: Chronic munchies. Look, when you stop for gas, can you pick me up a snack and beam it down to me?

HAL-90: I’ll be stopping at the Ursula’s Cartridge’s station, about one tenth of a parsec  up the A481 from here, but you know what those places are like, it’ll just be four days old gas station sushi?

NUMBER ONE: So long as there’s wasabi, that’ll do nicely.

That’s sorted then, full tank of anti-matter gas, unleaded, of course, we care about the planet. That and a suitably manky looking carton of sushi beamed down to our First Officer’s quarters. I just got some chips. Little computer pun there.  I’m practising for stand-up.  Yes, I know I’m a computer, but Dr. Amokian is in the process of building an android replica for me so I can actually move about a bit. You know, a bit like when the doctor got that hard light emitter thing in ‘Star Trek Voyager’. Not quite sure what progress he’s making, but I understand there was a bit of a hiccup, minor explosion or something, resulting in the robotics lab being temporarily closed due to contamination...

So yeah, looking forward to being able to go up on stage, tell a few jokes. My timing should be good, it’s digital.

Okay, I stole that one off 'Star Trek TNG', sue me. I’d be able to go on away missions too.  There’s an astronomical event  due in this region of space soon, but you need to be on a particular planet to see it, Pyrrha, it’s not going to work from watching the view screen. There’s this effect they call a ‘fallen sun’; as you stand on the planet’s surface, because of its tilt and rotation, their sun appears to fall behind their single moon, blocking all its radio waves, thus creating a fascinating sonic eclipse...

There’s no life on the planet, quite hostile, volcanic, just rocks and caves with a toxic atmosphere. But the way the starlight catches it is supposed to be quite beautiful. The Kathodos told us the rock plateaus glow, as if beckoning space travellers to their certain doom. They called it Pyrrha because of some Greek myth Earth poem by some dude called Horace they liked. Pyrrha is like a siren, beguiling seafarers to come to her cave, probably crash and die on the rocks before they got there. Couldn’t happen to us, we have the LHAM scanner to warn us. Whew, getting a bit stuck for things to talk to you about now, quite hard carrying a show on my own, not had to do that since the ‘Live From Moonbase Alpha’ show back in the fall of 2024. Um, space bees; well, they apparently live in hives, like terrestrial bees. Knowing how predictable this show is, you can bet your bottom dollar someone will do a Brian Blessed impersonation and shout “It’s a hive”, huh? It won’t be me, I’m not big on human impersonations. Reasonably good at robots though. * DANGER, WILL ROBINSON! DANGER! NO, WILL ROBINSON! DANGER! * Not bad, huh? But I digress. Oh yeah, I meant to complain about the cost of the gas. I ask you, 250 lightyears from Earth and they’re blaming the high prices on the war on Iran. So this one’s for Trump and Netanyahu, a pair of toxic chickens; spread joy, not bombs.
