At the time of this release, the Flashbax series was in its infancy, only three editions having been released. Plenty more available, weren't there? So how come the legendary Stan Batcow, the man who wouldn't let M&E release his music because we refused to charge precisely £1.37 for it like all his tapes cost, ended up with a completely unique compilation, world exclusive to Pumf Records? I'd suggest you read the original inlay notes below...

A MESSAGE FROM MMATT TO THE WORLD!

We already do a nice series of compilations especially for release by other labels. They are called Flashbax. Stan could have had a volume of that, exclusive in the UK. But oh no, not Stan, he wanted to compile a tape himself. Awkward bastard. So he picked the most obscure tracks of ours that he could find, intent on destroying our good name. Nasty man. Now he'll copy the master onto real el cheapo shit tapes and sell them at pathetic prices. There goes our street cred. He'll probably do some really naff inlay with a picture of Kylie Minogue on too. Sadist. Then he'll leave magnets on top of the tapes and spill beer on them. It's a conspiracy, I tell you. Sad really. Still, if his wicked plan doesn't work and you still like us, try sending an SAE (about 9x6) to us and we'll tell you the truth about how good we really are, no thanks to those gits at Pumf. Fuck 'em, huh?

Mick Magic

A MESSAGE FROM STAN / PUMF TO MMATT

1) "Awkward Bastard" is my middle name - thought you'd have discovered that by now.

2) Is it my fault that the tracks you class as your "most obscure" are my favourites?

3) The tapes I copy onto aren't real "el cheapo shit tapes", they only used to be. These days it's all high quality stuff.

4) Pathetic prices? No, just excellent value for money (try looking up "integrity" in the dictionary.

5) There is no picture of Kylie Minogue on this inlay - unless she's behind one of the trees in your photograph.

6) Magnets I can't guarantee against, but as for beer - I'm teetotal.

7) With all due respect: Fuck you!

I don't know, I offer to bust my ass putting out a release for the bloke, and all the moaning sod can do is quibble about loads of stupid irrelevancies and has the audacity to publicly libel me on the sleeve of one of my own releases. Well, stuff him. I won't print it.

Stan / Pumf Records

The Mmattrix copyright thing goes like this:

If you duplicate this for your pals as an act of kindness, then fine and wonderful things will befall you. BUT... if you copy this with profit in mind (and no permission), then all kinds of shit will land on you from a great height. So be cool!

Mick Magic

However, the Pumf copyright thing goes like this:

The tapes are so inexpensive, you've no justifiable reason to copy them. So don't! Send the cash and buy your own.

Stan / Pumf Records

The Wayne Smith photo that appeared on the inlay of "Designer Brain Damage". It was the same photo that was used on the generic cover we supplied for "Flashbax Vol. 2", the series that Stan thought simply wasn't good enough for his label. Used the photo though, eh? We had the last laugh mind, Kylie Minogue actually IS behind one of the trees.

I had a look on the Pumf Records website to see what had become of this globally exclusive release we had bent over backwards to provide Mr. Batcow with; "PUMF 182 was a 1992 cassette titled 'Designer Brain Damage' by Magic Moments At Twilight Time. Interest had fully waned by 2011." Hey, don't spare my feelings, we're old friends, give it to me straight. Well, at least he had the courtesy to burn a copy on a CDR for us. And he did buy our Twizzle a lovely psychedelic giant cuddly caterpillar. Courtesy of Stan Batcow, with all due respect...
