    Jean-Paul
Belmondo and Jean Seberg in  Godard's "À Bout De Souffle" |
    This was actually the original
intention when we did a track for the previous Jean-Luc Godard themed
compilation 9 months earlier, so we still had all the samples we'd gathered
for it and not used at the time, mostly drawn from his 1960 crime drama /
true romance, À Bout De Souffle, though there are a few bits from
Weekend as well. We wanted to put this piece together in a style that
complimented Godard's own work, whilst keeping within the general framework
of musique concrète, so cut ups were the perfect compromise, centred around
Jean Seberg's cries of New York Herald Tribune! The one new element
was the idea of framing it all with a constantly running cine projector,
which I think works rather well. For the graphic, I found a photo of me
taken on holiday in Tenerife in 1998, cigarette hanging from my mouth a-la
Belmondo (fortunate find, I quit the following year and have never smoked
since), so converted it to black and white and repeated it as if in roll of
film, then placed it alongside our mock up of the paper. Et voila, profiter
    beacoup!
