So
what came after M&E began to fade quietly into the night? Well, it's not
like everything stopped happening twelve years ago, life went on, all was
not silent, at least not for a while anyway. The last published UWU Newszine
was the
New Year 2001 edition, so the purpose of this "issue" is to finally
publish all the material I had gathered since and to see if it's possible to
play catch-up with the particular network contacts involved. When you're
sitting comfortably, I shall begin...
My
age old notes tell me that the Alchemical Radio Show was put together
by Terri B & The Reverend Rabbit, who I would suspect is none other than Tim
Jones. If it isn't, it could well be a giant bunny in a dog collar. But
let's assume for now that would be very silly and stick with the Tim Jones
theory. Tim and Terri are the good folks behind Stone Premonitions, of
course; think The Rabbit's Hat, Body Full Of Stars, Mr. Quimby's Beard and
Shay, for example. This broadcasting appears to have happened in cahoots
with Aural Innovations, the excellent American spacerock zine run by Jerry
Kranitz. Anyway, they used to send us playlists and included lots of M&E
bands (tracks listed), what nice people. Here are a few of the bits and bobs
I had filed away...
Alchemical
Radio (Part 11 - November 10, 2001)
Blue Apple Boy (formerly Sleepy People) - "Dead Man Walking"
Don Campau - "God Is A Monster"
Judge Trev - "Battle Of The Trees" |
Alchemical
Radio (Part 12 - November 10, 2001)
Robin O'Brien - "Summer"
Alchemical
Radio (Part 15 - February 2002)
Lord Litter - "Dub Diablo"
Shay - "Closer To The Sun"
Alchemical Radio (Part 16 - February 2002)
Mr Quimby's Beard - "A Saucerful Of
Secrets"
Lord Litter - "Take Me Back"
Shay - "The Storyteller"
Garfield's Birthday - "New York
Mining Disaster"
So, what are Tim &
Terri up to now? Is the radio show still going? As luck would have it, I'm
in touch with both on Facebook, so I'll ask them...
(UPDATE)
Germany next, home of
the Alphyen Viwit label and the band, Glaring Surge. Our friend in
Gütersloh was Michael Witlake, who kindly included a MMATT track (Purple
Eyed & Mystified) on their "Breeze" compilation CD (Alphyen Viwit 006),
probably over ten years ago now.
Annoyingly, I don't know any of
the other bands on the album, so that won't make playing catch-up with the
label any easier here. However,
there's still a website
up for Glaring Surge, though it's never easy to tell how current these
things are, but I've tried the e-mail address and have me pinkies crossed
that an answer shall be forthcoming shortly...
(UPDATE)
Ivailo Tonchev of AON? Whew, now
there's a name I haven't seen or heard for a decade or more. I promised I'd
include this flyer in the next newszine (ahem). Is he still there? I have
absolutely no idea, but I have a couple of e-mail addresses I can try to
find out from...
