Philip Hutchinson Certainly. Surely most artistic types possess a similar disposition? I did tag Nick in old photos once, which he removed. I figured this would indicate a desire for the past to be the past.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Absolutely. Now, before "Dark Side" (you sure you didn't nick that from somewhere? ;) ) came out, you supported us at a certain party in Lightwater, later made rather famous by "Zoen Nostalgia". At the time, I noticed nothing out of the ordinary, but when I was listening to the live tapes afterwards, these words rather stood out to me...

Philip Hutchinson You honestly didn't notice at the time? That was a terrible evening for us, especially for me! I had anticipated a huge gig with everybody really getting where we were coming from, and we were just heckled mercilessly. It only just stopped short of things being thrown at us. We still didn't even own a drum machine at that stage. It was very, very basic and our 45 minute set was cut to about 25 minutes at our own discretion because it was so awful. Peter 'quit' the band afterwards, which he would do often. I think we started recording again about a week later, this time for the album thing we did for you. I had hoped Julie (White Hawk) had some video footage of the set, but she's only got a few seconds of when we arrived at Lightwater Village Hall. This track, Mick Tron For President, was never actually about you. He shall remain nameless, but it was about a boy we knew at Sixth Form who was somewhat of an arrogant outsider. I say 'about' as if our lyrics ever said anything of worth!
Julie Howell Philip Had I known you'd been so poorly briefed (though Mick's intentions were probably to give you some exposure) I'd have told you to expect drunken 6th formers who were into Guns 'n' Roses. It's sad because I liked what you did when I got to hear it later on (although I was banned from most of your gigs by Mick). Alas, I didn't see any of your set as I was in the foyer greeting friends. None of the set was filmed because the camera was a VHS borrowed from the school my mum worked at and to film anything with that you needed all the lights to be on. Mick also spent ages doing a soundcheck while teenagers who were barely used to alcohol availed themselves of the free bar AND the more powerful stuff that some had smuggled in. This is why Tony Parsons (Guns 'n' Roses fan) was so pissed by the time C&S came on and yelled all through your set. Had I known, I'd have taken him outside, but I didn't as I was outside myself. Sorry that was a bad one for you. For what it's worth, the MMATT set went down just as badly. Mick was really keen to do it so we indulged him. And he did meet Sam there. Plus the entire room got to hear Nick Wilson announce to my mother that he wanted to fuck me, which almost never happens now.

Editor's Note Who could possibly imagine why?

Julie Howell And I definitely have more video of you from that night, but I haven't found it yet (it's somewhere on a VHS tape here in Peterborough).
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Well, I was having a good rummage through the General Synod archives and here's one you made earlier, I can only thank you for the re-dedication. I mean, who was A****w C****s anyway...

Magic Moments At Twilight Time I thought I'd better censor the name as you'd put 'nameless'... I'm trying to be good, Lord, I promise! :)
Philip Hutchinson Yes, indeed. I haven't seen him for over 30 years and hardly knew him at the time so I find it highly unlikely he will be aware of this.
Philip Hutchinson Please also notice the extreme hi-fi quality of this recording. This was done on the four-track at Farnborough Sixth Form in April 1988.
Philip Hutchinson Like much of what we did in the early days, this is a structured recording using motifs we'd improvised onto a dictating machine.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Wow, innovative! Not one of your finest musical hours, but quite amusing, and a very early track, going back before we even knew you. You should hear some of MMATT's first efforts! Not here though, of course. You started doing a fair few gigs without us after that, possibly on account of the fact we really HAD split by that point, possibly because you didn't like the heckling, something else I hadn't particularly noticed on the day, are you sure I was there? West End Centre, the gig I met Pippa Smith at, who I was interviewing this morning, what are your memories of that night, better? I remember it being a pretty good gig.

Magic Moments At Twilight Time Ooh, that's the back of my head enjoying its 15 minutes. Thank you, Mr. Warhol...
Philip Hutchinson These were taken by Kevin Whibley. Kevin's been a professional photographer for many years.
Philip Hutchinson We weren't an M&E band. We did our own thing and your label put out a couple of releases. Julie's 18th was the only time we worked together until you became a proper live member of the band in 1991. We didn't gig very often. We were as much about silliness as we were about music and most people just didn't get it. It makes us sound more groundbreaking than we were. So, that show at the West End Centre in 1989. We were part of a day-long series of bands and were put on in the middle of the afternoon. Three recollections of that day: not many people, the coolest photo ever taken of me (not the one above), and you secretly changing all the settings onstage after our soundcheck deliberately so we sounded awful because it would be funny. It wasn't.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Um. Unfortunately, that sounds very believably like the way I used to be back then. Would you just accept "I unconditionally apologise for absolutely everything shitty I ever did to you"? It was never meant nastily, I just didn't understand that well back then. I think you once said to me; "Mick, you know your problem, you SAY things that other people only THINK." And you were spot on, that's pretty much Asperger's, and post-diagnosis, I really am a much better person and not such an annoying pain the arse. Would this be the nice picture...

Philip Hutchinson Oh, it's ancient, aged history, Mick. I am pleased that I have an unqualified awareness of psychology, however. This isn't the cool picture either. I'll try and find it on my Facebook account and
