Magic Moments At Twilight Time That is one seriously Hawkwindy
intro, innit?
Garry Lee ....and one we played to death over the years! :)
Magic Moments At Twilight Time A couple of months after the
"Inquiry" sessions, knowing I did a bit of classical, Alex asked me if I
could create a traditionally 'Spanish stylised' piece for some lyrics
about the Spanish Civil War, again for Internal Autonomy. The music I came
up with will be undoubtedly familiar, but what IA did with it was
completely different. This is "Here In Our Hearts", vocals once more by
Anna Haigh...
Magic Moments At Twilight Time I did invite Anna for 'An Online
Chat With', but I fear she's never forgiven me for this... :(
Magic Moments At Twilight Time "L.S.D." and "Here In Our Hearts"
are now available on the double CD collection of Internal Autonomy's work
called "Discography" (Front Cover), very worth parting with some readies
for...
Magic Moments At Twilight Time In the meantime, Al had run off a
copy of the music for us, which we so liked that Leonie and I produced a
demo of our version, which became known as "Spirit", based on my 'dead
matador' lyrics. Later in the year, I took her up to Raven and did the
vocal properly on to the master tapes. This was the result, remastered by
Klappstuhl Records in 2015 for their "Flashbax Ω Ultimate: The Best Of
MMATT" album (SP 008). Here's "Spirit", the Magic Moments At Twilight Time
take...

Magic Moments At Twilight Time And that's the story I've been
propagating ever since... though, as it turned out, it wasn't entirely
true! Just recently, I've been digitising a lot of old cassettes, trying
to save much of our history before they perished (I love cassettes, but
they get fickle with the passing years). Amongst the material I found was
an old rehearsal tape of "The Terry Daniels Show". This was a low brow
cabaret outfit that Shona (above right) and I worked with briefly. 'Terry
Daniels' was actually Gary Pym (left, making rude gesture, tut tut), who
MMATT fans will know better as Gary St. John. Anyway, in the midst of this
rehearsal tape, I found this pitiful 'comedy' sketch, involving me playing
'a piece of classical Spanish music' and being interrupted by Fred Dibnah
(played by Gary). Oh, the shame of it...
Magic Moments At Twilight Time This was from January 1985, that's
long before Alex Cable asked me to 'create' a piece. I guess he must have
heard me playing around with Spanish style stuff first and that I didn't
do it specially for him at all. Bugger. Can we keep the original version
in the official history instead?
Magic Moments At Twilight Time We'll be coming back to Gary, of
course.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time I think we are going to need a bit
of serious quality after that piece of shite! I wouldn't mind, but it's
not even funny, just plain embarrassing. Life, eh? Well, the next track
Leonie did after "Spirit Electric" was, in my humble opinion, one of the
best vocal performances I have ever heard. I grant you we had to get her
severely stoned to get it out, but the range on the chorale is simply
breathtaking, the vocal is beautifully plaintive and I still find this
track utterly haunting to this very day. It makes the hairs stand up on
the back of my neck. Ladies and gentleman, Ms. Leonie Jackson performs
"The Night Fantasia", headphones on...
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Leonie enjoying a smoke between
takes. Behave, it's just a cigarette (I hope!)...
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Wow.
Garry Lee So that's the young lady whose vocals were on my theme
tune. I've only wondered who she was for 27 years lol :)
Magic Moments At Twilight Time That's the one, Leonie Jackson.
Magic Moments At Twilight Time Leonie's fifth and final
contribution as a lead vocalist was this one, track no. 8, "Love Let Thy
Name Be Darkness" (which will appear top left on the next page on the edit
for the website)... |
