Fired up by the acceptance of
god Eat god, Skit and I had started work on a Magic Bullet debut
album within a couple of days of recording it. With the first three tracks
already under our belts; Mutant Flash Mob, I Find It Cathartic
and Crowd Close Door; we spotted the next call out post from Shaun
Robert on the Saturday, the day after that first compilation was released.
We were keen to explore the concept of musique concrète more
thoroughly, so decided to pretty much have a go at anything Shaun suggested
in the future, stretch ourselves a bit. I have to admit though, when we read
the brief of latent audio surfaces, we just looked at each other and
shook our heads as one! Ultimately, a few what the fuck minutes
later, we decided to concentrate on the word latent, particularly in
the sense of unfulfilled potential. For some unknown reason, that one really
seemed to resonate on a personal level! Using some samples of bad weather
(hey, we live in Knott End-On-Sea!) and a low bass pulse, we came up with a
track that really sounds like it's going to go somewhere, but never actually
does. To be honest, we weren't sure about it when we first listened to the
completed track; would people get the idea that its being terminally boring
was actually deliberate? Like I said, move along now, there's nothing to see
here! Luckily, Shaun was happy enough with it and the track became our
second release a week later...
