With views like these from our
bedroom window, it's probably not surprising we were inspired to contribute
to the Chilean Cian Orbe label's second landscape themed compilation. Parrox
Hall itself, one of the oldest houses in Lancashire, continuously occupied
by the same family throughout its long history, is behind the tree line at
the back of the photo. You can just see the silhouettes of the Lancashire
Fells in the background, Beacon Fell the most visible, about a third of the
way across the photo from the left.

Intended as "an air for cellos
and electronica", this is a progression of the idea we first used on a
musique concrète piece called "Saturday, Sunday, Surréalité", recorded
for Shaun Robert's IFAR series. Although that one was quite lo-fi and hissy,
the cello samples coming from a 50+ year old trailer for a Jean Luc Godard
movie we found online, it had a certain charm and we always figured we would
come back to the concept one day and do it better. The cello samples used
here are digitally recorded, so you feel the full resonant range of these
beautifully emotive instruments (big fan of bowed strings, I confess,
whilst Skit prefers power tools), though we put our hands up to a little
electronic manipulation. Oh, come on, it would hardly be Magic Bullet
otherwise! Even then, Skit was still a tad unhappy because the track sounded
like it ONLY contained REAL musical instruments! Couldn't have
that now, could we? So we created a layer of accompanying
electronica from effected samples of a gentle wind, as we wanted to keep
it reasonably natural sounding. Recommended to be played with feet up and a
gin and tonic at hand. Like I said, we owed you some calm... ;->
