Great to back on Chris
Phinney's Harsh Reality Music more than 30 years since the first time
around, even though Volume 2 was actually supposed to be on Gypsy's Rodent
Tapes label. At the time of publication we're still no wiser as to why, but
Bandcamp basically closed his account, no explanation given. This is a bit
of disturbing turn of events, especially considering so many of us depend on
the digital distribution platform nowadays. It's not the first time I've
heard of this happening either, fingers crossed some kind of resolution will
be forthcoming.
We were kind of gripped by
Chris' concept for this collection, both being hardcore theoretical physics
geeks who give immense time and headspace to such concepts as the nature of
reality. When one examines the complete irrationality of quantum mechanics,
it's not hard to see why simulation theory became a reasonably
accepted train of thought. Well, let's be accurate, it's a hypothesis,
rather than theory. If you're interested in learning more, I'll put a link
at the end. This is something of a musical representation of the same; it's
quite funky, got a nice rhythm to it, but doesn't make perfect sense. What
you hear is not what you get, nothing here is what it seems. Unlike reality,
this piece is definitely simulation, not a genuine musical
instrument in sight. Oh yes, we take our art very seriously.
Sometimes. When it suits us. The Matrix inspired photo was taken on the
beach at Knott End-On-Sea, that's Sam and Twizz pointing at the code in the
sky, somewhere behind the screen beyond that keyboard...
